The NJROTC accredited curriculum emphasizes citizenship and leadership development, as well as our maritime heritage, the significance of sea power, and naval topics such as the fundamentals of naval operations, seamanship, navigation and meteorology.

Classroom instruction is augmented throughout the year by extra-curricular activities of community service, academic, athletic, drill and orienteering competitions, field meets, flights, visits to naval or other activities, marksmanship sports training, and physical fitness training. Electronic classroom equipment, textbooks, uniforms, educational training aids, travel allowance, and a cost-share of instructors’ salaries are provided by the Navy.

NJROTC CADET CREED

I am a Navy Junior ROTC Cadet. I will always conduct myself to bring credit to my family, country, school and the Corps of Cadets.
I am loyal and patriotic. I am the future of the United States of America.
I do not lie, cheat or steal and will always be accountable for my actions and deeds.
I will always practice good citizenship and patriotism.
I will work hard to improve my mind and strengthen my body.
I will seek the mantle of leadership and stand prepared to uphold the Constitution and the American way of life.
May God grant me the strength to always live by this creed.

Navy JROTC Mission

“To instill in students the value of citizenship, service to the United States, personal responsibility, and a sense of accomplishment.”

 The Naval Service Training Command Navy JROTC program is divided into 11 areas across the United States, and also has Units in Italy, Spain, Japan and Guam. There are more than 86,000 student Cadets enrolled in over 580 units.  Area 3 is under the leadership of CDR Joseph Hankins, US Navy (Retired) and his staff, headquartered at Naval Station Great Lakes, IL.   
 
Goals of Navy JROTC
1)  Promote patriotism:  To instill or enhance a love of their country, respect for the flag,and pride in teh government and our way of life.
 
2)  Develop informed and responsible citizens:  Give students an awareness of their responsibilities, duties and rights as citizens.
 
3)  Promote habits of orderliness and precission:  Understanding that the develop of good habits and order in one’s life has assisted others to achieve high levels of success.
 
4)  Develop a high degree of personal honor, self-reliance, self-discipline and leadership:  These personal qualities are found in most of our successful leaders.
 
5)  Promote an understanding of the basic elements and requirements for national security:  Explain the need for Armed Forces and the relationship between Armed Forces and a democratic government.
 
6)  Develop a respect for and an understanding of the need for constituted authority in a democratic society:  Why do we have laws and governments?  What are the other choices?
 
7)  Provide incentives to live healthy and drug free lives:  What are some of the consequences of the choices we make?
 
8)  Develop leadership potential:  Navy JROTC gives many opportunities for leadership at all levels.
 
9)  High School Completion:  The importance of a good education is a stepping-stone to future success.
 
10)  Provide information on the military as a possible career.

General Orders

 
1)  Take charge of this post and all government property in view.
 
2)  Walk my post in a military manner keeping always on the alert and observing everything that places within sight or hearing.
 
3)  Report all violations of orders I am instructedto enforce.
 
4)  Repeat all calls from any post more distant from the guardhouse or quarterdeck than my own.
 
5)  Quit my post only when properly relieved.
 
6)  Receive, obey, and pass on to the sentry who relieves me all orders from the Commanding Officer, Command Duty Officer, Officer of the Deck, and Officers, and Petty Officers of the Watch only.
 
7)  Talk to no one except in teh line of duty.
 
8)  Give the alarm in case of fire or disorder.
 
9)  Call the Officer of the Deck in any case not covered by instructions.
 
10)  Salute all Officers and all Colors and Standards not cased.
 
11)  Be especially watchful at night and during time for challenging, challenge all persons on or near my post and to allow no one ot pass without proper authority.
