Holy Cow!!!

“On March 7th, the freshmen honors biology courses visited Fair Oaks Farms, one of the biggest dairy farms in the country.  This field trip was an amazing experience for our students as they were able to explore and learn about a modern working farm located right here in Northwest Indiana.  Our freshmen began their day by taking a bus tour of the dairy farm.  During this tour, they were able to see how the cows are cared for in their stalls, observe how the feed is prepared, and learn about how the cow manure is converted into natural-gas fuel used to power the town.  They even stopped at one of the miking parlors to watch and learn about how the cows are milked.  In the birthing barn, our students watched as a cow gave birth and even got to see the calf stand for its first time!  They also sampled milk and ice cream that are made on site.  This was truly an unforgettable experience that our students will always remember.”
